Barcelona submits €50 million bid for Lewandowski

La Liga club side FC Barcelona have submitted a 50 million euro bid for Poland striker Robert Lewandowski and hope to see out a deal before Wednesday.

Barcelona has been linked with the Bayern Munich striker all summer, with Lewandowski also stating his intentions of leaving Bayern Munich.

However, the German Bundesliga side has remained resolute in keeping the striker, who has a year left on his contract. They also placed a €60m price tag on him for interested suitors and instant payment.

Barcelona has been looking for a major striker signing ahead of the new season as they hope to get a better campaign than the last.

Nevertheless, money is one of the problems for the Catalans, and they have been doing all they can to get the funds. First, they have tried to shed the wage bill by releasing some players and selling some.

They have also sold some percentage of their La Liga TV right deals to boost the purses, while their two signings so far have been free transfers.

The two players are Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie from AC Milan and Danish defender Andreas Christensen from Chelsea.

Barcelona has also told four players to find new clubs, and they include striker Martin Braithwaite, Riqui Puig, Oscar Mingueza, and French defender Samuel Umtiti.

Even Netherlands forward Memphis Depay has been prepared to be sold to make way for Lewandowski.

Xavi Hernandez, who came in in the middle of the season last season, still has former Arsenal forward Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to call on, but a spirited Lewandowski, who is seriously pushing a move, won’t be a bad addition to the camp Nou.

However, at 34, Bayern Munich wants €50 million for Lewandowski, and they want it paid without any form of flexibility. The striker himself wants everything sorted before the end of the week as Bayern Munich prepares for pre-season.

Although, if all is not sorted before the Bavarians go on their tour of America, the striker can still link up with Barcelona, who is also touring the US.
